Course Aim:

The session aims to provide an introduction to the use of :

The DMAIC Problem Solving Process and the use of A3 reporting, 8D Problem Solving and reporting, and provide an overview of the Kepner Tregoe Tools and Techniques of Problem Solving.

Target Audience:

All those involved in Problem Solving within their organisations processes or with 3rd party organisations such as suppliers and sub-contractors. Quality practitioners, Team Leaders and Internal Auditors. Information from this course could also be used as an induction program and wider awareness campaign for the need for improvement.

Course Objectives:

  • An introductory course to increase the delegates knowledge on the aspects of the Problem Solving Process, its elements and requirements.
  • Examples of the key processes and documentation that are required as part of achieving thorough root cause analysis.
  • Understanding the links between the problem solving tools and processes and benefits of problem solving in teams
  • The use of Action and Preventative Action to prevent recurrence of the Problem.

Course Overview:

  • Identification and prioritisation of problems which require structured problem Solving
  • How to study the problem situation and prepare a thorough Problem Definition
  • The use of “Plan Do Check Act (PDCA)” during a problem solving exercise
  • Use of a Cause & Effect / Fishbone diagram during a problem solving exercise
  • Use of the “5 Why’s” technique during a problem solving exercise
  • Understanding of key terms including Corrective and Preventative Action
  • Preparation and delivery of 8D and A3 reports to management.
  • Benefits of using Poka Yoke when creating problem solving solutions.
