First Aid at Work Refresher

Course Overview
This two-day refresher course is designed for learners who already hold a valid First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification and need to re-qualify before expiry (course can be taken upto 3 months after expiry). The course refreshes essential first aid knowledge and practical skills, ensuring learners remain confident and competent to act as a workplace first aider.

Course Content

Day 1 – Core First Aid Skills Refresher

Learners will revisit the fundamentals of workplace first aid, including:

• The role and responsibilities of a first aider

• Assessing an incident and managing the scene safely

• Infection prevention and control

• Primary survey (DRABC)

• Unconscious casualty management

• Recovery position

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

• Choking (adult)

Day 2 – Injury and Illness Management

Building on core skills, learners will refresh their knowledge of common workplace injuries and medical conditions:

• Secondary survey

• Wounds and bleeding (including severe bleeding)

• Shock

• Burns and scalds

• Injuries to bones, joints and muscles

• Head and spinal injuries

• Chest injuries

• Eye injuries

• Poisoning

• Anaphylaxis

• Asthma

• Heart attack

• Stroke

• Epilepsy

• Diabetes

Assessment

• Practical assessment of first aid skills

Certification

• Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW)

• Valid for 3 years
