Course Overview:

Sometimes line managers can feel ambushed by difficult issues. The first question many managers ask themselves is 'is it my responsibility to sort it out?'

In most organisations the answer is most certainly 'yes'. Yet there can still be a reluctance to get caught up in very emotional or difficult performance and conduct issues.

Get it wrong and the employee may go absent, work less effectively or worse! Get it right and you can improve levels of performance, attendance and employee engagement.
Often, we can avoid the honest conversations: we feel awkward, don't want to upset people, or are not sure how to start. This course will enable you to explore difference approaches and techniques to ensure that these conversations really succeed.

  • Explain the impact and consequences of failing to hold conversations and the potential benefits of doing it well
  • Recognise that individuals need to be supported in different ways
  • Understand what it takes for people to be able to listen to challenging messages

  • Identify and use strategies to make them more bearable in the future
  • Identify current conflict style and the impact of this for ourselves and others
